My name is Roy Clerx and I’m a Dutch national. I’m passionate about technology and I have strong European roots, but also a broad view of the world. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to visit many countries and experience different cultures and systems. One thing is clear: societies run to a large extent on digital infrastructure. In recent years, I have become increasingly aware of how dependent Europe is on non-European technology providers. US and Chinese platforms dominate large parts of our digital lives. At the same time, strong European alternatives do exist. They are simply less visible and not yet at the scale of the US and Chinese platforms.
eurotechguide.com was created to make those alternatives easier to discover, understand and evaluate.
In my daily life, I work as an enterprise architect for a large telecommunications company in the Netherlands. In that role, I get to see firsthand how important it is to have strong, reliable and independent digital systems. And how difficult it is to create, maintain and run those.
This website is a private initiative and has no affiliation with my employer.
The Mission
I aim to:
- Highlight European digital solutions
- Increase transparency around technology origins
- Encourage informed choices
- Support a more balanced global digital ecosystem
By increasing awareness and providing structured evaluation tools such as the Sovereignty Index, I hope to contribute to a stronger, more independent European digital landscape. One that benefits not only Europe, but the global digital ecosystem as a whole.
